Welcome to the University of Tampa Oyster Lab! Our lab focuses on how eastern oysters respond to stressful environmental conditions on the genomic level.
As a vital component of Florida's estuarine ecosystems and commercial fisheries, eastern oysters face numerous threats, including pollution, climate change, and fluctuating salinity levels. Our current project utilizes transcriptome sequencing to investigate how extreme low and high salinity events influence the expression of stress-related genes and genomic pathways in eastern oysters
This research not only addresses a significant gap in the existing literature but also contributes to our broader mission of advancing conservation and enhancing commercial oyster production. Join us in uncovering the kep adaptive mechanisms in oysters as we strive to make meaningful contributions to the future of oyster conservation and aquaculture.
